Mosaic lamp workshops at a glance

A mosaic lamp workshop is a hands-on class. You arrange small pieces of coloured glass on a lamp, stick them in place and leave with the finished piece. Studios guide you step by step, so you do not need any craft experience.

Not all workshops are in the Grand Bazaar. The two studios compared on this page are in Sultanahmet and Beyoğlu. A class takes 2 hours, so it is easy to combine with a bazaar visit on the same day. Prices are 2026 prices in euros per person.

The Beyoğlu class costs €30 to €35, so confirm the amount on the booking page before you pay. For most visitors staying in the old city, the Sultanahmet studio is the easier choice: it sits in the old-city tourist area and offers five languages. If the lowest price and a complete lamp with base and bulb matter most, look at the Beyoğlu class.

What to expect in the class

From the first piece of glass to the packed lamp.

The work

An artist shows you how to place the glass pieces. The price at the Sultanahmet studio includes the instructor, equipment, a work area and aprons. The result is yours to keep.

Groups

The Sultanahmet studio quotes a price on request for groups of 6 or more. Ask the studio about children and minimum age before you book.

Booking

Both studios offer online booking or a reservation request. Check the booking page for free places on your day, payment terms, taxes and cancellation rules before you commit.

Taking the lamp home

Both studios pack the lamp. Before you leave, check how it travels in your luggage, and make sure the plug and voltage suit your country.

Making a lamp or buying one

Two ways to bring a lamp home from Istanbul.

If you prefer to buy, lamps and ceramics are on sale in the Grand Bazaar. Both are fragile, so ask for proper packing. A label such as "antique" or "handmade" is a sales description, not a guarantee, and some pieces are reproductions in an old style.

Our shopping guide covers lamps, ceramics and carpets, and the bargaining page explains how to ask for a fair price. The workshop gives you a fixed price and a piece you made yourself, so it suits visitors who do not want to haggle.

The bazaar is open Monday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and closed on Sundays. See the opening hours when you plan the workshop around a bazaar visit.
